Hello Gummy bears :) Just a quick reminder to you all that we'll be having a quiz tomorrow which will be about Distance between two points and Midpoint of a segment.

Here's an example of Distance between two point :

Here's an example of Midpoint of a Segment :

..but then again, my apologies for the tiny writings on images. I hope this helps..and also a reminder to finish up Exercises 4 and 5! Goodluck fellow gummy bears :)

At the beginning of today's class we did the POTD (problem of the day). I'm not going to give the solution because that is way too much work to do. But in case there is some on the blog that wants to try it, I'll put the problem.
.
Find a point on the x-axis that has a distance of 10units from the point (4,6)
.
We established that the midpoint of a line is the point directly in the middle of a line (the halfway mark)
.
The midpoint formula
This formula is basically finding the average of the Xs and the Ys.

The smaller numbers you see next to the Xs and Ys are subscripts
.
.
Find the midpoint of a line with pointA (5,6) and PointB (7,12)

.
.
Find the centre of a circle who's points of diameter are (3,-2) and (-2,4)
.
.
(9,11) is the midpoint of a line adjoined by (x,12) and (13,y) line x and y.

*sorry about the images, but when I try to enlarge them they do show up that great*
.
Ms. Armstrong assigned Exercise 5 for homework

Hellow there!

So, last friday we started a new unit called "DISTANCE BETWEEN POINTS."

DISTANCE FORMULA:

Find the distance between a(3,6) and B(7,9).

ex.

The distance between two points can be expressed in terms of their coordinates by using the Pythagorean theorem.

In a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse (longest side) is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides.

Each HALL OF FAME POST can only be used once, so make sure that no one has commented on it before you (or yours will not count).

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER:
1) What is the TITLE of the post and who was the author?
2) What is the math topic that the person was writing about?
3) What reasons were given for inducting this post into the hall of fame?
4) What did you think of the persons work? Don't forget to be respectful of people's work and the safety issues that we discussed in class.
